Ballroom Dances

So, which ballroom dances can you expect to enjoy at the SSC?
For our ballroom dances, you will find Slow Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango.

Latin Dances

For Latin, we dance Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Jive and Samba.

Popular Sequence Dances

We have approximately 40 sequence dances to choose from, which we add to from time to time to keep up with what's popular.

Evening Format

From 8pm until 9:15 we have 16 dances, this is split evenly between Ballroom, Latin and Popular Sequence.

There is an interval of 30 minutes at 9:15pm to give us the chance to draw the raffle and make announcements, such as which other dances you can attend locally and of course, to give the musician a break!

We follow the announcements with interval dances. These will include dances that are not on our main program, such as Argentine Tango, Salsa, Bachata, Mambo, Bossa Nova, Samba, Viennese Waltz. We use recorded music while the musician is taking a break during the interval.

The interval is followed by the second half of the program until 11pm, with another 16 dances.

Monthly Dance Evenings in Didcot

When is the dance held?

Our dances are held on the last Friday of the month, but sometimes we have to juggle this, such as at Christmas and Easter, so make sure you check the actual date of our next dance. You will find all the dance dates on our Calendar Page.

Where and how much?

We dance at Didcot Civic Hall at 8pm, and we open the doors at 7:30pm.
Admission is £8pp and we accept all Credit and Debit cards, as well as Apple and Google pay. See our location page for precise details.

Tickets

You don't have to pre book, just turn up with your dance shoes.

Parking

There is no need to worry about parking as we have free onsite parking for over 100 vehicles.

Bar

There is a fully staffed and fully stocked bar with a variety of draught and bottled beers, plus wine by the bottle or glass and spirits and soft drinks.

Special Events and Formal Balls

Formal Balls

Twice a year, in April and October, you can experience the magic of the ball, when everyone arrives beautifully attired in their finest eveningwear to dance the night away.

Special Events

Summer and Christmas are our themed parties when the dance hall is decorated in the theme for the evening. Even the dancers throw themselves into mood by coming along in their party outfits.

Some common questions answered

What should I wear?

Smart casual is how we like it. Some come along dressed more formally, and that's ok too. Don't forget though, we do have formal balls and a couple of party nights, so check the dates for these in the Calendar.

Do I need a partner?

Ideally, yes. But we do have several solo dancers who come along and they never seem to be short of a dance! The SSC doesn't have dance hosts, so if you are a single dancer and thinking of coming along, why not drop us note. You can send us a message on our Contact page.

Do I need need to book?

No need to book, just turn up with your dance shoes, a credit/debit card, or cash.

What does it cost?

Just £8pp, that's not bad for a great evening dancing to live music.
